Diesel Equipment Technology is certified by ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) as a Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Training Program. This assures that the curriculum follows the stringent standards identified by NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation). BTC has one of only three ASE certified training programs in Washington State. Program content follows the ASE areas of Electrical/Electronics, Preventive Maintenance, Brakes, Steering/Suspension, Drive Train, and Diesel Engines, plus modules in welding and hydraulics. Great emphasis is given to leading edge technologies in the diesel field.The program emphasizes the development of appropriate work habits and attitudes, leadership, interpersonal communications and teamwork skills, customer service competencies, as well as the technical skills necessary for employment

Clark's Diesel Program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions into the diesel technician trade. Diesel Program instruction includes both classroom theory and extensive hands-on experience in the shop were the student encounters real day-to-day problems and competency-based tasks. We offer an Associate in Applied Arts Degree and a Certificate of Proficiency. Courses include Diesel Engines/Fuel Systems, Drive Trains, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Brakes, Steering and Suspension, Welding, Air Conditioning and Wheel Alignment. Our shop is equipped with overhead cranes, engine dynamometer and modern equipment including electronic engines, a new backhoe loader, 1994 Freightliner truck, hydraulic trainers, multi-media lab and 30 ton portable truck lift.

The Diesel/Diesel Electric Technology program offers the student the opportunity to learn the proper procedures for servicing, maintaining and repairing all parts of the diesel equipment utilized in farming, construction and trucking industries. The student will receive a thorough training in the use of the necessary specialized tools and equipment. The program is designed to provide the graduates with the skill and training required prior to entering the diesel mechanics field. The purpose of the program is to prepare the graduate for employment in occupations such as Heavy Duty Equipment Technicians, Highway Truck Technicians, Fuel Injection Specialists, Diesel Engine Specialists, Hydraulics Specialists, Electrical Diagnostic Specialists, Brake System Specialists, and Powertrain Specialists.

The program has an articulation agreement with Montana State University which allows our graduates to enter MSU as a junior and go on to complete a four-year degree in Diesel Technology. Instruction is hands-on with "live equipment" to reinforce the theory segments of the program.

Diesel Technology program is structured to give the student a well-rounded education in the service and repair of trucks and heavy equipment related to areas including farming, logging, marine, locomotive, marine, and construction equipment. Students are provided theory and shop practice in diesel engines, safety, hydraulics, DC electrical systems and microcomputers, powertrains, brakes, and chassis and suspension. The student will also receive comprehensive safety training applicable to the work environment. Employment opportunities are available with a wide variety of diverse companies including trucking firms, logging firms, mining firms, construction firms, general and specialty repair shops, dealerships, and government agencies including the park service, the state, county shops, city shops, and other federal state and federal agencies. AED Foundation approved LCSC for accreditation.

LBCC is recognized as one of the industry leaders for off road heavy equipment training facilities. Degrees and Certificates offered: Two-year certificate of completion Associates of applied Science Degree Through an articulation agreement with Montana State University Northern, students may also transfer their Associate of Science degree to complete a bachelor’s degree in Diesel Technology from MSUN.

Students in the Diesel Technology program train to be diesel technicians who repair over the road and off road trucks, heavy equipment, and stationary type equipment. Students study hydraulics, electrical/electronic systems, fuel systems, standard/automatic and power shift style transmissions, air conditioning, braking systems, suspension systems, crawler tractor undercarriage, engine theory, engine diagnosis and engine rebuilding beginning with basic principles and proceeding to an advanced level of system technology. Along with these core courses, students take classes in welding, machining, computers, physics, and business technology.

Program Instruction occurs at the West campus, 3639 South Avenue West. Upon completion of the Associates of Applied Science Degree a student may opt to further their education by completing the Bachelors of Applied Science Degree.

PCC offers an extensive 6 term program, that consist of classroom and computer work and hands on training. Students have the option for a Associate of Applied Science Degree (90 credits), a two-year certificate (72 credits) or a one-year certificate (26 credits). Curriculum can include: Shop Procedures, Starting & Charging, Brakes & Suspension, Air Conditioning, Engine Rebuild, Diagnostic Tune-up, Hydraulics, Fuel Injection, Power Trains, Computers & Electronics, ABS & Air Brakes, and Welding. Technicians find employment right after graduation and many while still enrolled in classes. The program is NATEF certified (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation). Tours are available.

Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology students learn skills necessary to gain employment in several fields. These include truck and heavy equipment dealers, marine dealers, construction and bus companies as well as local municipal repair shops. The program includes instruction in engines, drive train, running gear, electrical, HVAC, hydraulics, preventive maintenance and welding. Class and lab work is conducted in clean, well-equipped facilities – an environmentally friendly place to learn and work. The Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology program offers flexibility in length of study. For those who want to update their skills or do not have the time to commit to full-time studies, South Seattle Community College offers a three-quarter certificate. Also, if in the future should you want to earn our six-quarter associates’ degree, you may apply those earned credits.

Spokane Community College's two-year diesel/ heavy duty progarm is one of the finest in the West. It offers in-depth training on a wide range of heavy equipment applications. The training recieved prepares graduates for employment in the heqvy equipment maintenance and repairs field wheich include, but not limited to, heavy construction, mining, logging, agriculture, marine, and trucking.

Students who successfully complete the program recieve and associate in applied science (A.A.S.) Degree. On average, 95 percent will fine employment their first year after graduatinon.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

A Variety of scholarships are available through the college and through the industry that supports the heavy equipment program.
